Jostein Gaarder in Indonesia 10th – 13th October 2011

Last updated: 26/10/2011 // The internationally acclaimed Norwegian author, Jostein Gaarder, gave the last lecture in a series of lectures connected to the “Polar Norway Exhibition- the White Adventure” arranged by the Norwegian Embassy in cooperation with Universitas Indonesia.

With the novel “Sophie’s World” Jostein Gaarder has sold over 33 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 60 languages.  6 of his books have been translated into Bahasa Indonesia and Gaarder met with many of his readers during his stay. More than 200 attendants filled the auditorium at the University to listen to the lecture “Human rights and human obligations. What can be done to address climate change?”.  

In his lecture Gaarder underscores the individual responsibility to ensure sustainable development.  Jostein Gaarder has demonstrated a persistent engagement for the climate and the environment and has established a humanitarian foundation, The Sophie Prize. The prize is an international award for environment and sustainable development released each year amounting to 100.000 USD.
