17th May celebrations in Jakarta 2009

18/08/2009 // Around 80 people attended the May 17th celebrations at the Norwegian residence in Jakarta. The majority of the guests were Norwegians who live in Indonesia, but also their families and friends of Norway. A few Norwegian tourists that were in the area also showed up, as the rumour had spread that the National day was being celebrated in town.

The atmosphere that was successfully created was similar to the kind we experience in our hometowns in Norway. Traditional Norwegian dishes and cakes had its natural place in the celebration. An Indonesian orchestra from Cikarang Utara high school had trained to perform a  some Norwegian songs, including the Norwegian National anthem. The orchestra also accompanied the children’s parade that was organized  out in the street . Ambassador Homme gave a May 17 speech  and there was singing and plenty of games for the children.
