The purposes of the meeting were: a) to strengthen the Women Parliamentarian Caucus in the whole of Indonesia in implementing their role and function as parliament members; b) to improve the role of the women parliamentarians in dealing with the actual situation, among others the decline of Indonesian Human Development Index and the threat of failure in reaching the MDGs target in 2015; and c) to formulate strategies in increasing the representation of women in parliament in 2014 election. The Consolidation meeting was officially opened by H.E.Vice President Boediono.
In November last year, Norway was approached by the Chief Coordinator of the Committee for the Consolidation, Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Hemas, during the visit of the Norwegian Deputy Minister of International Cooperation, Ms. Ingrid Fiskaa. An invitation was extended to a Norwegian Parliamentarian to be one of the resource persons during the conference. Due to unforeseen circumstances the Norwegian Woman Parliamentarian could not attend, but was represented by Ms. Marianne Damhaug, Minister Counsellor of the Norwegian Embassy in Jakarta. Ms. Damhaug gave a presentation of the evolving female representation and involvement in the Norwegian Parliament and in local politics in Norway. Another presentation was given by a resource person from Brazil.
Norway has also supported the Consolidation of Indonesian Women Parliamentarians through The Asia Foundation in response to an appeal for support from the Organizing Committee.
