Norway gives high political priority to its cooperation with Indonesia under Norway’s climate and forest initiative.
“We will continue to support President Yudhoyono’s ambitious aim of making substantial cuts in greenhouse gas emissions in tandem with stable economic growth,” said Mr. Holmås.
Minister Holmås’s programme includes meetings with Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, Head of the Presidental Delivery Unit and Chair of the REDD+ Task Force which is Norway’s partner in the bilateral climate and forest partnership, Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa, State Minister for National Development Planning Armida Alisjahbana and representatives of civil society. He will also make a field trip to Central Kalimantan which is the pilot province of the Indonesia- Norway climate and forest partnership. The Minister will meet with a local indigenous community and learn more about the challenges posed by deforestation and the opportunities for reducing emissions from forestry and land use change. He will also meet with the Vice Governor of Central Kalimantan, Mr. Achmad Diran.
