Minister of Forestry and the United Nations launch joint effort to combat deforestation and forest degradation

Norway’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr Eivind S. Homme opened the UN-REDD Programme workshop in Jakarta March 30th, together with Minister of Forestry, Mr. Zulfikli Hasan and the UN Resident Coordinator, Mr. El-Mustafa Benlamlih.
In his welcoming speech, Homme stressed the importance of the UN-REDD Programme in building capacity on REDD (Reduced emissions for deforestation and forest degradation) and in ensuring multistakeholder participation in policy development. He underlined the importance of coordination between all the actors presently involved in REDD+ initiatives, and the important role that the UN-REDD Programme can play in this respect.
Norway is highly committed to working with the UN in this matter, and sees the outcome of the UN-REDD Programme as a stepping stone for further engagement in REDD+ initiatives in Indonesia.
