The Norwegian Confederation of Enterprises (NHO) and their Indonesian counterpart, APINDO, organized a seminar on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on 9 Desember.
More than 70 participants attended the panel discussions on what CSR is in Indonesia and what it should be. The Event was opened by HE Ambassador Eivind S. Homme and APINDO chairman Sofjan Wanandi. Both expressed their satisfaction of the excellent cooperation between APINDO and NHO. Coordinating Minister for people’s welfare was represented by Secretary of the Minister Prof. Dr. Ir. Indroyono Soesilo.
APINDO chairman stated that Indonesia is the only country in world where CSR is mandatory, but highlighted that here is a need for clarification of Indonesia’s company law in order to make it more obvious to companies what is expected of them. He appreciated that Indonesia could learn from other countries, such as Norway, in this field. Ambassador Homme said that “the Norwegian Government expects Norwegian companies operating in other countries to respect universal human rights, international norms and standards and key principles of decent work – regardless whether these norms are reflected in local law or not.” The Norwegian Government was also represented by Ambassador Mrs. Ragne Birte Lund, who is in charge of the bilateral Human Rights Dialogue between Norway and Indonesia. She presented the newly published Government White Paper on CSR.
NHO and APINDO promised to follow-up on this topic and continue their already well established relationship. Their cooperation has been on several areas including training of ad-hoc labour court judges and women entrepreneurs. Links to the White paper on CSR:
