The Consultations is a result of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Industry and Energy of the Kingdom of Norway and the Ministry of Mines and Energy of the Republic of Indonesia concerning cooperation in the energy field. This MoU was signed in Jakarta, 18 September 1995 by current Prime Minister Mr Jens Stoltenberg, since he was Minister of Energy and Industry at the time.

The Consultations were co-chaired by Mr. Odd Sverre Haraldsen, Director General, Ministry of Petroleum and Energy (MPE) of the Kingdom of Norway and Dr. Ing. Evita H. Legowo, Director General of Oil & Gas, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resource of the Republic of Indonesia. Representatives from both private and public sector attended the meetings. Among the Indonesian participants was Dr Karen Agustiawan, President & CEO of Pertamina, who was in Norway to discuss their on-going cooperation with Norwegian ebergy company StatoilHydro.
Indonesia and Norway have common challenges to face and both heads of delegations agreed that the consultations had been important to further develop the good cooperation.
The next consultations will be held in 2011, but cooperation will continue in mutually benficial areas.
