Good Governance, Democratization and Human Rights

Indonesia is ranked as one of the most corrupt countries in the world. The ongoing reform process of the legal system, police, bureaucracy and military is crucial in the fight against corruption. The Human Rights situation in Indonesia has improved since the end of the ‘New Order’ regime, but the country still faces serious challenges. Norway and Indonesia have had a human rights dialogue since 1999.

Within the field of good governance and human rights, Norway is supporting the following projects in Indonesia:

- 'Applied Research Founded Promotion of Meaningful Democracy’

- 'Empowerment of Civil Society in Aceh in support of the Helsinki Peace Argeement’

- 'Combating Forced Labour and Trafficking of Indonesian Migrant Workers’

- 'Transparency in Local Governance’

- 'The Indonesia Programme’

- 'Legal Empowerment and Assistance for the Disadvantaged’
