Legal Empowerment

The main goal of LEAD is to increase access to justice for the vulnerable and poor. Project features are:

- support to legal services
- legal capacity development
- legal and human rights awareness
- related development activities

The project focuses on supporting and strengthening local initiatives to increase access to justice. LEAD works closely with ordinary people, civil society and state authorities to make access to justice become embedded as a human right.

Norway has since 2007 supported the pilot phase of the project in North Maluku. This phase is expected to be completed in 2008. So far the project has received approximately 456,000 USD from Norway. UNDP and Bappenas (the National Planning Agency) are responsible for implementation.
