In 2009, Norway provided NOK 2.9 million to the National Council on Climate Change to build momentum for carbon abatement in Indonesia, through refining and disseminating a GHG abatement cost curve analysis with relevant stakeholders as well as supporting two high-emitting provinces to create low carbon development strategies.
Indonesia's National Council on Climate Change has a broad mandate for tackling the challenges of organizational and capacity development related to climate change policy.
The overall objective of the current program is to build capacity in order to scale up existing efforts to reduce carbon emissions at both the provincial and national level by:
1. Building local capabilities to develop and implement low carbon growth strategies at the province-level;
2. Supporting the National Council on Climate Change in raising awareness of climate change threats and opportunities amongst key stakeholders; and
3. Building the institutional capability of the National Council on Climate Change to effectively coordinate Indonesia’s response to climate change.
